If you’re following along on Instagram, then you already know we recently moved! It was kind of a whirlwind. To give you the backstory, you may recall that we bought an older home back in June of last year with plans to renovate, which turned into plans for full demolition and new construction, so we knew we would be needing a rental for about a year from the time that construction begins. However, we couldn’t find one. So then fast forward to January 9th. We had sold our primary home and had moved completely out of it by around 10 o’clock that night. We slept in a hotel and the next morning at 6am, we were off to Harbour Island and all of our belongings were in storage! I think I’ve mentioned before that the Bahamas trip all along was sparked by the fact that we couldn’t find another home to move into straight away after selling ours, so that was a time to bridge the gap and pray that a great house would become available while we were away.

We have been looking since August for a rental. The market in Charleston is absolutely insane—only worse with how many people have escaped big cities throughout the pandemic to warm, sunny, and “open for business” Charleston. Because of how depleted the market is, we just couldn’t find a place to rent that checked all the boxes—not that all boxes had to be checked, by the way, but I knew we had time on our side to hopefully find a place that just felt right. One thing I learned while away is that home is wherever my family is together, so looks really weren’t as important to me as the location. But on the same token, we are home almost 24/7 since Brandon and I both work from home and don’t have offices elsewhere. So there definitely were some non-negotiables in terms of space needed.

Well, we couldn’t find that place until we were away in the Bahamas and saw a house we liked come on the rental market. It didn’t tick every single box either, but it’s located at the beach and I knew it would provide wonderful memories for our family. We immediately wrote the agent and said, “We’ll take it!” We arrived back home to the US on Jan 31st at around 8pm, then the next morning we met the movers and we all saw it for the first time together.

So there’s a little life update! I will be sharing lots more about this rental, like how we’ve updated it to make it feel more like home. But for those who are wondering, “Wait a second… where are you living? And why did you move?” and all the questions like that… I hope this helps! Stay tuned for more!
