a quick charleston staycation

Brandon and I decided to do a one-night little getaway downtown over the weekend.

We stayed at The Dewberry, which is my top recommendation for places to stay in town. I saw they had an opening and so we booked right away! My other recommendations, on that note, are 86 Cannon and Zero George, or if going the house rental route, then Guesthouse Charleston. Another worth checking out would be Hotel Bennett, which is nearby. With that said, there are tons of wonderful places to stay in Charleston, but these are just the ones that are in the location where I seem to have my favorite restaurants, shopping, and things to do.

The first thing we did was grab lunch at Eleve, which is at the top of the Grand Bohemian hotel. We wanted to be in the hotel because afterwards, we had tickets for a wine blending class in the same building. I was so impressed by the food. My lunch hit the spot! I had the turkey BLT and a crisp glass of dry white wine. Perfect combo.

They have a great rooftop at Eleve. I think it’s closed during the day, but we snuck out there to catch a glimpse of the view.

Next was our Kessler Wine Blending Class. I experienced this years ago as part of a media event and have been dying to take Brandon to it since then. It’s a wine tasting, but then you create your own wine blend and can take a bottle of it home! There was a fun bachelorette party in the class with us, as well as another couple—so it’s good for anyone!

Here are the custom wine labels we chose! (You can send in any picture you want via email for them to use on the spot.)

Then we checked in at The Dewberry. It’s really the most lovely place. We refueled with some coffee and took our time getting ready for the evening.

We walked to dinner at our favorite spot, Hall’s Chophouse. It’s a short and beautiful walk over from the hotel.

We slept in a bit the next morning and I enjoyed my third bath of the stay. I mean, you’ve got to take advantage, right!?

Then we went to lunch at this really low key place I’ve been dying to try called Berkeley’s. WOW. The food was insane. It’s the best tasting comfort food I’ve ever had. I highly suggest the artichoke dip and the cheesesteak. I’m telling you… worth every calorie.

That’s it! I forgot how wonderful a staycation is… you leave relaxed and get to stay relaxed rather than dealing with an airport or long travel arrangements. It was a quick but very much needed stay and I can’t wait to do it again sometime.
