I’ve often said that if I were not doing what I’m doing now, a job I’d love would be to represent Molton Brown and travel to new hotel properties around the world to help them develop their signature scent. Granted, this job may not actually exist, haha, but wouldn’t it be cool!? (I do feel the need to add a little disclaimer in here because if you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I’m not a big fan of fragrance due to safety reasons. 99% of the time, you won’t catch me wearing perfume and I’m very particular about candles in our home, but there are a few exceptions to this “fragrance rule” and Molton Brown is one of them!)
But back to the coolest job ever… The first time I had this thought was in 2013 when Brandon and I were on our honeymoon at Jade Mountain in St. Lucia. This was my first experience at a five star property, and boy did I enjoy observing every little detail that made it feel extra special. Among those details were the Molton Brown products they had in their bathrooms. While all from the same brand, the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion were all from different Molton Brown scent collections, yet they just worked together so harmoniously to create the most beautiful experience.
Boy did that make an impression on me. I don’t know if you’ve seen Jade Mountain, but it is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The fourth wall in the hotel room is actually not a wall at all, but an open air view to the majestic Pitons and the rich, royal blue ocean that drifts in front of them. Yet the lasting memory for me is not the view alone, but the scent of my freshly washed hair after a day in the ocean, while taking in the beautiful view with Brandon from a chaise lounge in our room. The lasting memory is the scent of the body wash I poured into the open air tub as it would fill with hot water and steam up as the cool ocean breeze would sweep into the room.
It’s these scents that have helped to make these memories feel complete. And you better believe that I took some of those little hotel-sized packages of the bath products home with me—and I have savored every last drop. It’s amazing how using these products on certain occasions when I want a very luxe bath at home, even almost 10 years later (yes I still have some!), transports me right back to the salty, tropical rainforest air of St. Lucia.
So there you have it. A long winded story of how a scent can take you back to a place and moment in time. And that’s precisely how my love affair with Molton Brown started.
So for me, certain luxurious (or dare I say frivolous) bathroom purchases are much more than just a bath product, but an experience. That’s how I’m able to justify some of these purchases, at least. They create a feeling! So today I thought I’d share some of my favorite bath and beauty products that add a little bit of luxury to my day and make me feel special.
While this post is totally not in partnership with the brand, I feel it’s only right to begin with the Molton Brown product I have on the list! Speaking of a scent bringing you back, this one takes me to Harbour Island, Bahamas. Specifically, the Dunmore. We’ve spent many a day walking the pink sand beach up to The Dunmore for lunch, and the first stop is to go to the little outdoor sink and wash hands, where they keep this particular scent. It easily comes in as my #1 hand washing experience ever after being so sticky hot from the beach, and I know so many of you know exactly what I’m talking about. The scent is just beautiful and every time I use it at home, I’m taken back to a far more beautiful place!
This bath soak is other worldly! It’s infused with CBD and over 30 minerals to truly relax the body better than any soak I’ve ever tried. (Use code “meganstokes” if you’d like to take 15% off your first order.)
While I have a long list of candle loves that I should share soon, this one is my top pick for our bathroom. It’s hand-poured in Charleston and smells warm, yet fresh, with a blend of sandalwood and coastal botanicals. If you’ve stayed at The Dewberry here in Charleston, then you know that this is their signature scent and it’s just absolutely incredible.
Here I go with another hand wash! But this one is totally different because it has little grainy rinds in it, which exfoliate the hands in a gentle and invigorating. I love to leave this one in the kitchen and in our powder bath. Anyone who uses it raves about it!
Gosh, do I love this robe. If you’re unsure about sizing, go up. Nothing is better than an oversized terry robe to make you feel like you’re in a luxe spa awaiting your treatment. (if only!) But this robe is something I put on after every bath and I just love it. I had mine monogramed just like Gwyneth Paltrow’s because, well… it’s GP. I wear a medium if you’re wondering!
