Yes, shutters. One topic I never thought I’d be blogging about! But these are something I’ve been asked about quite a bit, so I wanted to save it to the site for easy reference in the future. Check out this reel I just posted to see a better look at the difference they made on our house, as well as a fun reveal from breaking ground to completion of our house!
I mentioned in the caption of the reel that our shutters are one of the items that when installed, made me go “ohhhh” because they honestly made the biggest difference in making this house look like a home! We’ve never had real wooden shutters before, so this was really such a fun thing to see come to life.
By the way, our porch and really the whole house need to be pressure washed, but we are waiting for landscaping to wrap up, so excuse the dusty porch floor!
We had our shutters custom built through Monument Shutters. My friend Chassity actually used them for her home and I always trust her recommendations. We were very pleased as the quote was less than competitors and the process seemed pretty streamlined. Our architect already had all of our necessary shutter sizes drawn up, so we submitted that to Monument and they immediately built a quote.
Their quote showed various options, as you can get your shutters made in different materials, ranging in price. We decided to go with real wood… the exact type and style is “Louvered Pine Shutters.”
I’m also often asked about the color! It’s nice that Monument can do custom colors, so we didn’t have to have our painter back out. The full length shutters around the door are done in Benjamin Moore Abington Putty, a nice neutral with a greenish hint. The ones on all of our windows are the same color of our house, Benjamin Moore Simply White. Honestly I wasn’t sure how it would look to have shutters in two different colors, but since one color is for door shutters and one color is for windows, I thought it might work. We really wanted to make our doors stand out. And remember, this photo was my inspiration for our home and I wanted to incorporate their general color scheme into our home! (Although looking that picture immediately makes me want to paint our porch instead of staining it, as well as paint our doors. Sigh.)
Sorry, Brandon, for posting photos of our our dirty porch. Maybe I’ll replace these one day soon when we get a power wash after landscaping is done! But to anyone curious about the shutters and the paint color which I’ve promised to share for forever… I hope this was helpful! Cannot recommend Monument enough — and no, they didn’t pay me to say that or gift our shutters to us. 🙂
